STUDENT FAQS

What is Central Tutors?

Central Tutors enables students to search trusted private tutors in Central Scotland and beyond, in a wide range of subjects and disciplines. Students can browse tutors within their local area and submit an enquiry form to Central Tutors. Central Tutors will then match you with a tutor most suited to your learning needs.

What subjects, levels and ages do Central Tutors cover?

Central Tutors aims to provide tutors in a range of subjects including; Maths, Sciences, Languages and many more which are part of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence. Subjects will also be available at Primary School level through to National 4/5/Higher/Advanced Higher and university level for all ages and abilities. If you are looking for a tutor in a specific subject that is not listed on our website then please get in contact with us.

How do I know I am getting a good tutor?

All tutors are required to fill out an application form detailing their tutoring experience and also submit two references, to ensure that they are adequately qualified to tutor within their subject. We also ask students for feedback after they have had their first session which is then displayed on the tutor’s profile. Central Tutors aims to recruit teachers/tutors/lecturers who are experts within their subject.

What security checks are in place for tutors?

Tutors will be required to upload two character references. They will also be asked whether they have a valid Disclosure Scotland check or are a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme. A PVG Scheme member’s paper certificate shows the information available on the day it was created. If tutors do not have a valid PVG certificate it will not prevent them from becoming a tutor providing that they have adequate character references and qualifications/experience.

How much does tuition cost?

The cost of the private tuition varies from tutor to tutor. The tutor’s hourly rate will be displayed on their profile. Payment for your tuition session is made directly to your tutor and arrangements for this will be confirmed by your tutor.

Where does tuition take place?

Arrangements of where the tuition sessions take place will be made between the student and the tutor. The tutor’s profile will display whether they are able to travel to the student’s home for the tuition or prefer to hold sessions within their own home or mutually agreed location. Tuition can also take place online through Skype or any other method if the tutor is able to do so and this is displayed on their profile.

How do I book a tutor?

Booking a tutor is really easy. You have to fill out and submit an Enquiry form. Once Central Tutors has received your enquiry form, we aim to match you with a tutor most suited to your learning needs within 48 hours.

How can I leave my tutor a review?

Students will be sent a feedback request email from Central Tutors after your first session. It is up to you whether to fill this in after the first session or to wait until more sessions have been completed. This feedback will then be displayed on that tutor’s profile. Feedback from students is extremely important to ensure that we continue to provide the best service and tutors.

What is the Central Tutors Connection Fee?
